Because Coyote fur is long, you might expect them to be found in colder environments, but coyotes can be found in almost every type of habitat in North America. Like many animals, coyotes have longer fur in the winter time which they shed in the spring. Their long fur allows them to live in higher altitudes and colder climates, and because they shed in the summer, they can also adapt to hotter areas. Coyotes that live in hot areas have other ways of regulating their temperatures, so they are less dependent on their fur for temperature regulation.
